If you suffer with hair loss or scalp issues? My new service is for you!

Do you suffer with hair loss or scalp issues?

Has the texture of your hair changed and you don’t know why?

Are you confused by the myriad of products available and don’t know what’s right for you?

Hair care is big business and if you walk into any pharmacy or supermarket you will find rows and rows of products all claiming they can transform your hair!

The truth is – most of them don’t really work that well and a lot of them will dry out or damage your hair.

The path to healthy hair, like most things, starts from within. Look at your diet, wellbeing and stress levels and you will improve the condition of your hair.

Looking after your hair and scalp from the inside

You are unique, and your lifestyle choices and diet will affect your hair, so it makes sense that no one product or solution will suit everyone. This is why I developed my new bespoke service – to help you take control back and improve the condition of your hair and wellbeing.

For example, a lady recently came to see me regarding her hair growth, when she walked into my clinic, I noticed her hair texture was not normal.

Once we started chatting and I started my consultation I worked out hair growth was not her problem but instead breakage, due to having an underlying condition.

This is now being treated by her GP, and with a little help from me and her hair is looking longer and stronger, and healthier!

Sometimes there are other things going on which affect your hair health, but for most of us, a few simple lifestyle changes will improve the health and quality of your scalp and hair.

Here are a few things I’ve learnt over the years about how to maintain healthy hair.

  • Fad diets affect the quality of your hair. They might help you lose weight fast, but don’t provide you with the adequate nutrients you need. Whilst keeping a healthy weight is important, maintaining a healthy balanced diet is more so, for both your body and hair.
  • Remember your body requires fuel like your car, if there are low levels of fuel coming in then things start going wrong. I’m not saying don’t diet but make sure your diet is providing all the nutrients your body requires.
  • Cut down on processed foods, yes they are quick and convenient but they contain high levels of fat, salt and sugar and very little nutrients. Keep processed meals for emergencies or the odd treat and try not to make a daily habit of it.
  • A little stress is ok but prolonged stress can take its toll on your health and affect your hair. We all have busy lives but it’s important to make time for yourself. Whether its reading, walking, meditating, doing an exercise class or watching TV. Find a way to relax and unwind and keep stress levels to a minimum.
  • Dehydration can cause or trigger some medical conditions, sensitive skin, aches and pains and headaches. Make sure you are drinking water daily – there is conflicting advice on this as some say your need ‘fluid intake’, and some sources say only water hydrates you. I would recommend you make your fluid intake 70% water and cut back on teas, coffee and fizzy drinks.
  • Caffeine and alcohol dehydrates your body and therefore your hair – aim to have no more than two cups of coffee a day and cut back on alcoholic drinks. Make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Fizzy drinks are full of sugar which is not good for the body. And don’t go for sugar free alternatives – they are just as bad or worse! Instead cut them out or severely limit your intake.
  • Be kind to your hair, the more you colour, bleach and straighten your hair, the structure breaks down and the weaker it becomes. It’s fine to do all of that, just don’t do it too often. Every 6 weeks is fine for a touch up on the re-growth on colour. If you have full head colours, ask your stylist as to when it’s okay to have a change – do not colour your hair every week.
  • Do not over wash your hair, it will dry out your hair and scalp, make skin tender and hair brittle. The ideal is to wash it no more than twice a week with a gentle shampoo and conditioner. You will notice the change!

The list goes on, to find out more about what you can do to stay in good health and have healthy hair book an appointment for a hair health consultation. I can provide you with more personal advice and give you a lovely treatment to get you started.

By incorporating these changes into your lifestyle, you will start to notice improvement in your hair. This is no quick fix though, you need to give it time, on average it takes around three months for people to see an improvement. In my view, prevention is much better than the cure, so once you see an improvement – keep it up!

I love to help people maintain good hair rather than wait and fix the problem when the hair is not so good. Get in touch to book your bespoke appointment today.
