Why I don’t align with any one product brand

I always say that I am unbranded. What does that mean for a Trichologist? For me, it means that I am not aligned with any company or brand in particular. Simply put – I am aligned with products that work. I will not promote any one product or any one brand. I do my research and try out the products before I recommend anything to my clients. The area which I have found the most challenging is scalp treatments. During my training as a trichologist, I learnt to sort the scalp out first and the hair recovery will follow.

I find the medical based products available in the chemist very strong and most of the time the strength of the treatment is unnecessary – I liken it to cracking a chestnut with a sledgehammer. In other words, not really required. My ethos is always to find natural products and treatments which will
help your scalp and hair heal and recover, working in harmony with the body and the environment.

There are so many products on the market which claim to help with hair growth, it’s difficult to know what works and what doesn’t. I check out all brands and select a few of each product which I think will help my clients help with their scalp and hair recovery. I thoroughly test all the products I recommend over the duration of three months to ensure they do what they say they do.

Keeping in mind that everyone is an individual, needs will differ. Diet and lifestyle also impact your hair, so for you to gain the best results and have good hair recovery, all these areas need to be investigated.

These are my current top 5 go to brands

  • Philip Kingsley
  • Nioxin
  • Scandinavian Biolabs
  • DSD
  • Tracy Keen products

Yes, I have my own brand of products, which I formulate if I cannot find one good enough in the marketplace.

Does everyone need treatment?

Not everyone will need treatment products. Sometimes you may just need advice on which shampoo, conditioner or styling products will be less harmful or beneficial to your hair.

Hair loss and body function

Go into any store and there are so many products to choose from. It’s no wonder people get confused, or stick to the one brand they have always used. The words hydration, moisture rich and protection are words I look for in professional hair products. Words to avoid include thickening, body building and density building. These will cause your hair shaft to either be stuck together or expand the hair follicle. Both effects are not good for the health and strength of your hair.

The fewer ingredients there are in your product, the more natural it will be and therefore, the less harmful to your scalp and hair.
By choosing your products wisely and not being obliged to buy the shampoo because you like the conditioner will allow you to find the best products for your hair and skin type.

If you are having problems with your scalp or hair, then I offer bespoke treatment plans, designed for you. Get in touch to book a consultation.
